The TV adverts are plainer but can Microsoft really beat Google?The latest incarnation of the Microsoft (MSN) search site has been unveiled in 24 countries and in 10 languages after public tests, with a revamp designed to give better search options and more relevant results than previously, and with plainer advertising. New features include the ability to ask specific questions and a refreshing of its five billion websites every two days instead of the usual two weeks as well as an attempt to tailor the results to the searcher. Google has recently doubled the size of its search index to eight billion web pages and still deals with 60% of all visits to search engines in the UK, according to latest figures from Hitwise, the market research company.
